Sports Cardiology UK is at St George’s Park National Football Centre

Updated: Jun 27

It was a privilege to deliver cardiac screening services at St George’s Park, the home of England’s national football teams and a centre of excellence in elite performance. Working in this world-class environment gave us another opportunity to contribute to the ongoing improvement of player health and wellbeing at every level of the game.

In addition to providing screenings, we were proud to be part of the Football Association's faculty for the ECG and Echo for Athletes course. This educational programme is designed for clinicians involved in UK footballer cardiac screening. Supporting the upskilling of professionals is a vital part of improving the quality and consistency of cardiac care in sport.

Why Screen Footballers?

Footballers face significant cardiovascular demands because of the high-intensity, stop-start nature of the game. While they may appear in peak condition, underlying cardiac conditions can sometimes be unmasked by intense physical exertion. Sudden cardiac arrest, although rare, reinforces the need for proactive screening and accurate interpretation.

At Sports Cardiology UK, we provide tailored cardiac assessments that reflect both the demands of the sport and the unique physiology of each player. From first-team professionals to academy prospects, every athlete deserves cardiac care built on the latest evidence.

Combining Clinical Care With Education

Our work is grounded in both clinical experience and a commitment to education and research. By supporting training programmes such as the ECG and Echo for Athletes course, we help ensure that clinicians across the UK are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to interpret athletic hearts correctly.

This combination of clinical delivery and professional education allows us to contribute to a stronger, safer sporting environment for athletes of all ages and abilities.
